Introducing author and poet – June Perkins – Readilearn

This week on the readilearn blog I am talking to June Perkins about her wonderful collection of poems for children Magic Fish Dreaming. With the beautiful illustrations by Helene Magisson, this collection is a delight for the ears, the eyes, and the spirit. Read about June’s inspiration for the poems, and use them as inspiration for poems of your own, or use them to inspire poetry writing in your students.

So many beautiful comments. Thanks everyone for reading the interview and hoping you’ll read the whole book either at the library of through having your very own copy.

That was a great interview and I love the poems you shared and the illustrations and the way it is all put together. So often poetry – and stories – for children are jingles, lowest common denominator stuff. These hark back to days when children were introduced to literature in ways like this. Thank you for sharing your introduction to this lovely poet and her illustrator Norah.

Thank you for the warmth of your comment, Pauline. June’s book of poems is indeed inspirational. She has much wisdom to share, and her goals of encouraging children to think more about nature and the world are good ones.
