Norah Colvin writes in the upcoming The Congress of Rough Writers Flash Fiction Anthology, Vol. 1:

“Flash fiction is a form of short writing. In its various forms, it may be known as, for example, micro fiction, sudden fiction, or six-word stories; the length may vary from as few as six to as many as 1,000 words. Brevity is a constraint, and writers attempt to pack as much story as they can into few words. Each word must count. There is no room for ‘darlings’, let alone a need for them to be killed.”

Carrot Ranch is hosting a Flash Fiction Rodeo with eight different contests throughout the month of October. It’s free and includes first place prizes in each category of $25. I’ve bookmarked Norah. I would love to join in, but this is a crazy week for me in edits and a pile of other things. If I don’t make it this week, I hope to jump in later. 🙂

After re-reading Charli’s post, I found your challenge most appealing to me as a memoir writer, so I think I’ll hop on! Will you be posting when it goes live and the entry deadline? 🙂

Ooh! That’s so exciting, Debby. The post will go live first at the Carrot Ranch, then I’ll re-post it here. All the details of the contest and how to enter will be included. Including the final date for submission. I can’t wait to read the entries, but I won’t know which is yours until after the judging. Just to be fair. 🙂

Thanks, Geoff. I hope you join in. I’m not sure how well I’ll go at yours trying to make anyone laugh. Humour is not my forte. It will be good to try it for a stretch of the old brain cells.

This is going to be awesome. I look forward to seeing what you come up with for your contest. I saw the general theme but am curious about the details. (And I love your choice of judges. That’s an interesting mix!) 🙂

I’m picturing you and Robbie together judging flash in a 6-yr-old’s voice and it’s kind of cracking me up. 😀 Good thing Norah will be there. (Kidding. Get it? Kid… Never mind. Anyway, I think the balance is going to be great. Cheers!)
