I was tearing up as I read your full post – how wonderful to get such concrete feedback that you inspired the next generation of teachers from her first taste of school. And a fabulous three-way collaboration between you, the young teacher and the author of what sounds like a lovely book. Wonderful also that you had kept Lauren’s gift. Such a positive experience for everyone – thanks for sharing it with us.
Oh, that’s a lovely comment, Anne. Thank you. Lauren was a special student, that’s for sure, and she has the support of a wonderful family. Her mother was such an amazing support when Lauren was in my class. I have very fond memories of both of them, and of a younger brother who came along a little later. Sadly, I didn’t get to teach him though. The school didn’t have a policy of giving families the same teacher, as some schools do. It was just the luck of the draw.
how great that you still have this wonderful connection between you and that she invited you and you came through in colors! I love the book that you chose as well, it sounds like a really good story and lesson. what a wonderful relationship it can be, between teacher and former student who wants to be like her teacher
