In this post, I share some information about Michael Rosen. I hope you are already aware of Michael Rosen because he is an amazing poet, author, educator and so much more.
If you know nothing else about him, you probably know his award-winning picture book Going on a Bear Hunt with its wonderful illustrations by Helen Oxenbury. This article in the Guardian that tells how he came to write it and Helen to illustrate it is quite fascinating.

Yes, I know Michael Rosen. I love that this story is one about learning to accept help when you need it. I’ve been there and done that when I had to learn to walk, swallow, feed myself, dress myself etc. after a serious injury 18 yrs ago. I just wish I had his sense of humor. My approach was just to get on with it and do it! Nice post. Enjoyed the video.

I have to admit I’m not familiar with Michael or his book, even though it has more than 12,000 reviews on Amazon. It seems about once a year, I have these moments happen where I feel like I should know who this person is, but I don’t I wonder if his books got more attention overseas. Perhaps I’ve just been living under a rock.

I don’t think you’ve been living under a rock, Pete. We can’t know every one. I often hear of somebody or something and wonder why I hadn’t heard of them or it before. But that’s how it goes. Michael Rosen is probably best known in the UK, where he’s from. I can’t remember how or when I discovered there was more to him than Going on a Bear Hunt.
