Getting Ready for the 2022 School Year – #readilearn

Welcome to the first post for 2022. Although, globally, we are all still confronted with the ‘inconveniences’ caused by the pandemic, I hope you will find much joy and many successes to celebrate throughout the year.

This year has been designated as:

  • International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture
  • International Year of Glass
  • International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development
  • International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development

all of which have relevance to our classroom programs and the Sustainable Development Goals. While I give but a brief introduction to each in this post, I hope to bring you additional lessons and teaching ideas throughout the year.

When I think about the ‘inconvience’ of Covid… I think about what some of our parents and grandparents had to live through. Like Polio, and other health issues that took the lives of our loved ones way too early for us to understand.

May we all continue to learn from each other and respect our environment. I believe science can help (if it weren’t so overwhelmed…as our hospitals once again fill to bursting with new Covid paitients).

It certainly is a scary time for new parents too. Choosing who they can visit and being cautious with their new borns. I have a realative that is insisting all the adults are up to date (vacinee and other immunizations wise). Or she won’t let them visit while she’s in town. So this week I have to get an adult booster that I may not need, but have to get just so I can see her when she comes to visit.

This morning our paper said some folks are opting once again not to go into the office (if they can work from home). Not all have that option.

I hope many have enjoyed and used your valuable resourses. Best to you for 22!!

(Oh I had a WP glitch the other day where I didn’t get a comment to my email, and the only way I could unspam it was to make a reply from my dashboard area.)

Thanks for your thoughtful and detailed response, Jules. Yes, we are certainly fortunate to live in an era with so many medical advancements where we can benefit from the vaccines. I’ve had my third (booster) shot and was happy to do so. We’ve had an outbreak of Omicron over here that is ripping its way through the population after been fairly safe for the first two years. If possible, people are asked to work from home. But, as you say, many are unable to do that and are at risk.
I wish you and your family a happy and safe 2022.

Reminds me of ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ – folks are tired, angry, and don’t want to comply (so unfortunately some of them … die – too young).

Yeah. I know what you mean. I don’t like this wolf much though.

Could things have been handled differently from day one. Perhaps. I think in this ‘dance’ we’ve taken two steps back without moving forward very much.

Some one said we had about three years from the original onset… Now I wonder if we have to start that count all over again 😦

Hopefully we are moving forward. The further we go, the more is known and the more able we are to fight it. Here’s to a healthier tomorrow.

Thank you Norah. And oddly, I could pop over through your comment here. I think it’s an example of Mercury Retrograde playing ‘Glitch’. 🙂

Sounds plausible, Debby. I’m sure it won’t be the only one. 🙄
