I am passionate about education and believe that education should be a force for good in the world, a tool for transforming individual lives, communities, and our collective humanity.

I was delighted to read that tennis champion Roger Federer has established a foundation to bring education to some of the poorest people in the world. According to this article, Federer set his 10-year plan in motion in 2011 and has now opened his 81st pre-school centre in Malawi. As I do, Roger Federer believes early education to be the “foundation of learning”.

    Hi Norah – I knew Federer has always contributed to others but hadn’t known about his Foundation and the assistance he is giving to so many African children … that’s great to read about – with 4 children of his own … I can understand the appeal. No wonder he only plays half the year … time to keep on encouraging children who need that extra help with their education … cheers Hilary

      Thank you for stopping by to read and comment, Deborah. I agree. I very much admire the goals of the foundation and what Roger Federer is doing. I don’t really follow celebrities in any field (other than education – and we don’t have too many “celebrities”) but this story makes me take a much greater interest in Roger Federer. He can do more than hit a tennis ball. He is using his abilities to make a positive difference in the world. 🙂

    One can tell just watching him play that he’s a good and solid citizen. I know he’s opened tennis academies – with Djokovic I think or is it Nadal – I did not know about his foundation for early education. Good on the Fed. Thanks Norah!

      I love hearing about good works being done by those who earn large amounts of money. There are many who share the love around by spending wisely for the betterment of others. 🙂
