For the past few years I have been preparing early childhood teaching resources for a website that I hoped would be up and running by now. Unfortunately, there have been some delays with the developer. In the meantime, I thought I’d share a resource with an Easter theme to give you a free taste test. This will be of interest mainly to early childhood teachers or parents of young children. Everyone else is excused.

The resource, called “Easter Delivery”, is a story about twin bilbies, Benny and Belinda, who get to deliver eggs to the families of some friends for the first time. It incorporates addition concepts and is suitable for use with the whole class on the interactive white board.

The story involves the children in helping Benny and Belinda work out how many eggs they need to deliver to each family and the combination of packs they could choose. The maths concepts are probably most suitable to year one students but teachers may use their discretion about how much maths to include.

Included is an information sheet about the resource and three printable follow-up activities:

  • Benny and Belinda’s Easter Activity – children record the number of people in their own family and draw and calculate the number of eggs Benny and Belinda would deliver
  • A Happy Easter Card from the Bilbies – a card with a picture to colour and blank inside for children’s own messages
  • The Bilbies’ Easter Colouring Page

    I love it, Norah. Just had a go myself and will let Littlie have a go when she’s finished what she’s doing now.
    The story alongside the math is adorable. The whole package is bright, fun, engaging. Fabulous! Well done.

    Love it Norah and I loved learning about Bilbies! I had no idea they existed until I got to the end of the storybook. I thought the maths was quite complicated so having the story as a motivator is brilliant. Good Luck 😀

    How frustrating for your website launch to be delayed but good to know you’re making use of the opportunity to test out your story. Looks good to me, but I haven’t voted as I’m not really your target audience. Hope those eggs are ready in time for Easter!

            It was a bit young for my kids but they liked it (especially when it got to the deliveries). Also, they LOVED the fact sheet on bilbies at the end.
            Question from one: “There were duplicate eggs in the deliveries for Joey, Emma, and Eddy. Was that intentional?” 😀

              Thank you, Sarah. I very much appreciate that you and your boys used the resource. They are quite a few years older than the target audience, so that increases my appreciation of their generosity of trialing it and providing feedback.
              Answer to the question: I hadn’t thought about having different eggs in each of the packs. The eggs in each pack were consistent throughout the story. Perhaps putting different eggs in each pack would be an improvement and save confusion. Thank you! I can fix that up before next Easter! 🙂

                Nope! Sorry. We misunderstood. We looked again and you said they couldn’t deliver any identical “packs”, not eggs. So, good, the kids made it more challenging, that’s all. 🙂 They thought you couldn’t deliver any identical eggs so chose combinations without any of the same egg in it. (Make sense?) Anyway, thanks!

    This is so great, Nor, I really love it. I would love to be able to watch a teacher use it in the classroom as it seems like such a useful and fun activity. Fingers crossed for the web developers coming through soon…
