Discussions in response to my most recent posts have been in-depth and involved a bit of back and forth and exchange of ideas about optimism, pessimism, meliorism and the meaning of life, including achieving goals and the idea of ‘not yet’. I am grateful to everyone who has joined in the conversation, got me thinking and contributed to my learnacy. Please may it long continue!

This week at the new-look Carrot Ranch, Charli Mills continues to challenge writers with her 99 word flash prompt to In 99 words (no more, no less) write a life span.

I decided to lighten up a bit this week, and simply respond to the challenge.

    I agree Norah. Every represented age you could visualize the form of writing and the person doing it but, with each form the same emotion of the loss. I know the feeling. I may not have chiselled and lost but I have in every other format. Loved the illustrations that went with it. It worked really well. We need a tutorial on how to do it.

    Brilliant! You don’t even have to spell it out for your readers, your flash fits perfectly with your blog themes of developments in education and literacy. So clever of you to address millennia of writing in so few words, and your illustrations enhanced the text beautifully.

    Horrible. Quite awful. The ultimate nightmare replicated down the centuries. I won’t sleep; I will be beset with nightmare visions of clouds dispersing and clear blue skies empty, a howIing void once filled by beuteous prose. You are the White Queen of Flash and Narnia is no more.

    Imageous! Another great term and describes well what I was thinking, as I greatly enjoy your visual expression of your flash fiction. A great look at the past. Somehow quills and clouds seem a lovely way to craft stories.
